‘Airplane Mode’ & The Wildest Comedies of the Year

Dazzler Media

2019 has been a great year for comedy with some truly original and funny films to take the edge off the gloomy state of the world! To coincide with new, hilarious gross-out comedy Airplane Mode, undoubtedly the breakout movie of the social media generation and starring 23 of the biggest social media celebs on the planet, we look at some of the best of the year which you should definitely seek out.

Shazam!

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring them out. In Billy Batson’s case, by shouting out one word – “SHAZAM!” – this 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult superhero, Shazam (Zachary Levi, Chuck), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart – inside a ripped, godlike body – Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them. He sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the recklessness of a child, but he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the forces of evil.

Highly praised by fans and critics alike as yet another DC hit following Aquaman, with a beautifully nostalgic 1980’s feel, the film went down a treat across all ages and proved you’re never too old for a good superhero comedy.

Isn’t It Romantic

New York architect Natalie (Rebel Wilson, Pitch Perfect) works hard to get noticed at her job, but she’s more likely to be asked for coffee and bagels than participate in the team’s big projects. Already a lifelong cynic when it comes to love, she has an encounter with a man who turns out to be a mugger, rendering her unconscious, and she wakes to discover her life has suddenly become her worst nightmare – a romantic comedy – and she is the leading lady.

Playing on all the best, widely known rom-com tropes, Wilson is hilarious as ever and joined by a top supporting cast including Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), Adam Devine (Workaholics) and Priyanka Chopra (Quantico).

Booksmart

We follow two academic superstars and best friends Amy and Molly, who, on the eve of their high school graduation, suddenly realise that they should have worked less and played more. Determined never to fall short of their peers, the girls set out on a mission to cram four years of fun into one wild night.

The directorial debut of Hollywood star Olivia Wilde and fronted by Beanie Feldstein (Lady Bird), Kaitlyn Dever (Detroit) and Jason Sudeikis (Horrible Bosses), this hilarious and moving coming-of-age story is considered one of the best teen movies of recent times.

Long Shot

Fred (Seth Rogen, This is the End) is a journalist with an affinity for trouble. Charlotte (Charlize Theron, Tully) is one of the most influential women in the world. Smart, sophisticated, and accomplished, she’s a powerhouse. They have nothing in common, except that she was his babysitter and childhood crush. When Fred unexpectedly reconnects with Charlotte, he charms her with his self-deprecating humour and memories of her youthful idealism. As she prepares to make a run for the Presidency, Charlotte impulsively hires Fred as her speechwriter, much to the dismay of her trusted advisors. A fish completely out of water, Fred is unprepared for what follows, and their chemistry leads to a series of unexpected and dangerous incidents.

Sharp, funny and with an excellent cast including Rogen, Theron and helmed by Jonathan Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies) Long Shot is a sweet and oftentimes truly outrageous comedy.

Airplane Mode

En route to the world’s largest social media convention in Australia, internet megastar Logan Paul is scared to death; today is his first time flying! All of his worst nightmares come true when the passengers refuse to switch their phones to airplane mode, causing the plane’s controls to go haywire and electrocuting the pilots. Amidst the chaos, fellow celeb Juanpa Zurita (Logan’s foreign exchange brother) has one goal: to lose his virginity or die trying. It’s up to Logan to overcome his fears, defeat a psychopath being escorted by police, and save the day.

With hilarious gross-out comedy taking place at high altitude, Logan Paul flexes his comedy muscles and is joined by fellow internet stars and comics including Chloe Bridges, King Bach, Nick Swardson and Amanda Cerny.

Dazzler Media presents Airplane Mode on DVD & Digital from 14th October.
