Filming will kick into gear in October, Khan revealed this week. The rights to a remake of the 1994 movie, which bagged six Oscars, were reportedly snapped up from Paramount Pictures. The Forrest Gump Bollywood remake is just the latest in a long run of Bollywood redos. In the past we’ve seen Indian versions of films like Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz vehicle Knight and Day, and the Jon Favreau comedy Chef! Also in the works are remakes of the likes of The Fault In Our Stars, which will be titled Kizie Aur Manny, and a new version of Begin Again, the Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo movie from 2014.

The Forrest Gump Bollywood remake will be huge as Aamir Khan is one of the Indian film industry’s biggest stars, and indeed one of its most popular. A veteran of Bollywood cinema with 50 credits to his name, Khan was last seen in the big-budget Thugs Of Hindostan which was released at the tail end of last year.

Aamir Khan announced the news of his new project at a press conference this week.

According to Variety he told the crowd: “I have always loved Forrest Gump as a script. It is a wonderful story about this character. It is a life-affirming story. It is a feel good film. It is a film for the whole family.”

No news on a release date as yet, but we’ll keep you posted. If you need a reminder of the original, here’s the trailer.
