It’s that time of year again! The nominations for the 2019 Academy Awards have been announced. Leading the way with a massive 10 nominations each are period drama The Favourite and Netflix’s applauded black-and-white feature Roma. Vice, Adam McKay’s political comedy/drama Vice grabbed eight nods, as did Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut A Star Is Born.
Just behind those came Marvel’s Black Panther with seven nominations including one for Best Picture, becoming the first superhero movie to even get a nod in the lead category.
As the award nominations were announced, A Star Is Born became the odds-on-favourite to beat The Favourite in the Best Picture category, though hat film’s star Olivia Colman gained extra traction to score Best Actress in the film, though many think that the award already belongs to Glenn Close who gave such a superb performance in the drama The Wife.
As expected, Rami Malek was nominated for his role as Freddie Mercury in Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, and is the the bookies’ fave to score the golden statue when the awards are dished out next month.
