Watch Bao online for Free – Pixar’s stunning 2019 short

In “Bao,” an aging Chinese mom suffering from empty nest syndrome gets another chance at motherhood when one of her dumplings springs to life as a lively, giggly dumpling boy. Mom excitedly welcomes this new bundle of joy into her life, but Dumpling starts growing up fast, and Mom must come to the bittersweet revelation that nothing stays cute and small forever. This short film from Pixar Animation Studios and director Domee Shi explores the ups and downs of the parent-child relationship through the colorful, rich, and tasty lens of the Chinese immigrant community in Canada.

I just watched it, and it is truly magnificent. Pixar continues to knock out stellar short films as well as feature-length movies, and this one is no exception.

Bao is amongst an impressive list of films nominated in the short-list for Best Animated Short at next year’s Oscars. The list includes titles “Age of Sail”, “Animal Behaviour”, “Bilby”, “Bird Karma”, “Late Afternoon”, “Lost & Found”, “One Small Step”, “Pépé le Morse”, and “Weekends”. 140 live-action films originally qualified for consideration. Those listed above will be whittled down to the final group, which will be announced with the other nominees on 22nd January 2019.

The 91st Academy Awards take place on 24th February. I suspect that Bao has a very good chance in getting shortlisted down to the final few, and who knows, may even walk away with the gold statuette on the big night.
