Top 5 Films We’re Looking Forward to in 2019

If you’re a movie buff like I am, the next 12 months will be a wild ride for incredible original films and long-awaited remakes. Whether you’re into comedy, horror, action, or family-friendly films, there’s something coming out this year that is sure to intrigue you. WIth an incredible roster for the year, it seems impossible to narrow it down to the ones I’m most excited for, but there are a few films I have been eagerly awaiting for quite some time.

Glass

Opening on: January 18, 2019

The most anticipated film for me, possibly ever, is the M. Night Shyamalan crossover Glass, which merges his 2016 psychological horror film Split with his 2000 classic superhero thriller, Unbreakable. With Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson returning from Unbreakable and James McAvoy from Split, this A- list cast is sure to impress us with what has the potential to be the best movie of the year. Redefining the way we look at superheroes in a time of comic book movie oversaturation, Glass will be a refreshing start to the year for moviegoers young and old.

Captain Marvel

Opening on: March 8, 2019

In Marvel’s first solo female superhero flick, the phenomenal Brie Larson takes on the role of Carol Danvers, Air Force pilot turned superhuman. Captain Marvel is set in 1995 and will provide some backstory to the Marvel cinematic universe, including showing us Samuel L. Jackson as a digitally de-aged Nick Fury before his days as director of S.H.I.E.L.D. It is also rumored to provide us with some answers as to how the Avengers can recover from the damage done to the world in Infinity War. Captain Marvel will certainly be one of the biggest grossing films of the year, providing a visually appealing superhero spectacular for comic book movie fans everywhere.

Hellboy

Opening on: April 12, 2019

A great year for reboots, Hellboy is one of the most anticipated. Starring David Harbour of Stranger Things fame, the third installment in this comic book movie franchise is going to be a must-see whether you’re already a fan of the series or not. Ron Perlman’s portrayal of Hellboy in the original will be hard to match, but there’s little critique of the choice of his successor. Hellboy will be sure not to disappoint and, if anything like the comic or the original films, it will be a wild ride for viewers.

The Lion King

Opening on: July 19, 2019

Out of the three Disney classics getting a remake this year, The Lion King is absolutely the most iconic and anticipated. Director Jon Favreau is sure to do the original justice, just as he did with his 2016 remake of The Jungle Book. With an all-star cast of voice actors (James Earl Jones returning as Mufasa? Yes!), there’s no way The Lion King will be any less than incredible.

It: Chapter 2

Opening on: September 6, 2019

This year will be great for James McAvoy, who, along with Bill Hader and Jessica Chastain, will join the cast of the 2017 It for the sequel, following the stories of the original characters into adulthood. Fans have long awaited this follow up, and those who remember the original miniseries starring Tim Curry are looking to see how the new film will end the story. An obsessive It fan like myself may sell her home in Fresno for a quaint little place in Derry, Maine. If It: Chapter 2 is anything like the first installment, it will be the best horror flick of the 2019 Halloween season, easily.
