Warner Bros. Are Planning A New ‘Supergirl’ Movie Set In The DCEU

Warner Bros. are plotting a new Supergirl movie. The planned film will be set in the existing DCEU with 22 Jump Street writer Oren Uziel already on board to pen the screenplay for the film. The new Supergirl movie is in the very early stages of development at present, but it’s all very exciting, right?

New Supergirl movie set in the DCEU on the way

The planned project, which is well into development, will be based around Superman’s cousin. Of course, Henry Cavill is Superman in the current series though it has not been revealed if he will appear in the new Supergirl movie at this early stage. He last appeared in last year’s ill-received Justice League, though recently gave a wonderful turn in the now playing Mission: Impossible – Fallout opposite Tom Cruise.

Deadline first reported the news though there weren’t any further details available.

The character of Supergirl has been played many times on the big-screen. She can be seen on the small-screen portrayed by Melissa Benoist, but for guys of my age can remember Helen Slater playing the character in the 1984 Supergirl film. That movie was a huge box-office bomb, but of course, times have moved on since then with superheroes becoming a huge draw at cinemas – and a female-driven comic-book movie will be welcomed to the DCEU. Surely a female director will be sought for this?

Here is some more info on the character courtesy of the DC Wikia.

Kara-Zor-El, also known as Supergirl and Linda Lang, is a Kryptonian superhero based in Metropolis. She is the cousin of Superman, Lana Lang’s foster niece and a member of the Justice League of America.

Kara Zor-El is the daughter of Zor-El and his wife Alura In-Ze. Kara is actually older than Kal-El (Superman); she was a teenager when he was a baby. When Brainiac attacked Krypton, he took Kandor with him, while Kara and her parents remained in Argo.[1] After Brainiac’s attack, Kara’s father created a force-field around Argo using a Brainiac Probe. When Brainiac returned to consume Argo City, Kara’s parents had no choice but to send her in a rocket headed for Earth. During the journey her rocket was caught in a large kryptonite-encrusted meteor and she arrived on Earth years after her cousin did.
