New Clips Arrive For Spike Lee’s Superb ‘BlacKkKlansman’

I had an absolute blast at this year’s Cannes Film Festival back in May and one of the most memorable films of the may that I saw down in the south of France was Spike Lee‘s supremely funny, urgent and totally present BlacKkKlansman, three new clips for which we have for you below. The film opens in UK cinemas in a couple of weeks, but U.S. audiences can see the new joint from Friday. Check out the new BlacKkKlansman clips below.

New BlacKkKlansman clips lands online ahead of its release this month

The new BlacKkKlansman clips can be viewed below but first, here’s a recap of the plot from official sources.

From visionary filmmaker Spike Lee comes the incredible true story of an American hero. It’s the early 1970s, and Ron Stallworth (John David Washington) is the first African-American detective to serve in the Colorado Springs Police Department. Determined to make a name for himself, Stallworth bravely sets out on a dangerous mission: infiltrate and expose the Ku Klux Klan. The young detective soon recruits a more seasoned colleague, Flip Zimmerman (Adam Driver), into the undercover investigation of a lifetime. Together, they team up to take down the extremist hate group as the organization aims to sanitize its violent rhetoric to appeal to the mainstream. Produced by the team behind the Academy-Award® winning Get Out.

Now, I was blown away by this movie, and I said the following in my original review from Cannes.

Lee and his fellow writers have layered a screenplay full of dark humour, the feature constantly bringing smiles and even laugh out loud moments. A lot of it comes from Washington’s strong character and talent for comedic timing, helped with the witty one-liners his character is given throughout proceedings. Alongside him is his straight man in the form of Driver’s Flip, the police officer who must attempt to match Ron’s voice when coming into the KKK in physical form. The two make a great pair, and we’d pay good money to see this police duo in their own TV spin-off – they’re an absolute joy to watch in every scene.
