It has been rumoured for weeks but now Marvel Studios has made it official – a Black Widow movie is on the way and Berlin Syndrome filmmaker Cate Shortland is set to direct.
The Hollywood Reporter just broke the news of the movie announcement, a film which will see Scarlett Johnsson’s superhero finally get her well-deserved stand-alone. Shortland’s announcement as director comes after the studio reportedly met with 70 filmmakers for he coveted role. Amma Asante (Belle, A United Kingdom) and Maggie Betts were amongst the shortlist for the job, something we reported on just a couple of weeks ago.
There’s no word on when we may expect a Black Widow movie, but the great news is that it is happening and it has a great filmmaker at the helm.
More as we get it.
