Ben Affleck has joined the cast of Mudbound helmer Dee Rees’ next film over at Netflix, The Last Thing He Wanted. Anne Hathaway is already lined up for the drama set-up at the streamer, as too is Toby Jones, Rosie Perez, and Edi Gathegi, who The Hollywood Reporter also named as new additions late yesterday.

The trade says that the film will be based upon Joan Didion’s 1996 novel of the same name, and will ‘center on a hardscrabble journalist, Elena McMahon (Hathaway), who inherits her father’s position as a dealmaker — an arms dealmaker. She soon finds herself on dangerous ground as the Iran-Contra Affair’s arms-for-drugs plot reaches its tipping point.’

Shooting is set to start later this year for a 2019 release. The film marks Affleck’s second Netflix film – he’s just finished up filming Triple Frontier for J.C. Chandor, a film which will also debut on the streaming service in 2019.

More on both projects as it comes in.
