It’s a move that is sure to please fans around the world – Billy Dee Williams is set to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian in the soon-to-start-production Star Wars: Episode IX over at Lucasfilm. The last time we saw Lando was in this year’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, of course, but before that, it was in the form of Williams’ portrayal in Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi (he did pop up in some of the animated stories too, though – and even in Family Guy).
Lando first made an appearance in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back.
The news isn’t 100% official as Lucasfilm are yet to comment, but sources have confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter, who state that Williams recently dropped out of a Comic-Con Stateside because of a movie scheduling conflict. The trade has confirmed, through their sources, that it was due to his role in the upcoming Episode IX.
Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver are all returning for the next installment in the growing space saga, while Keri Russell was recently confirmed to be joining the project in an unknown role also.
J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars: Episode IX, which will be released in cinemas on 20th December 2020.
More as it comes in.
