Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool actor Jamie Bell is in talks to join Rocketman, the planned biopic of music legend Elton John. Bell would play the role of Bernie Taupin, John’s longtime lyricist and collaborator. Variety broke the news.
Taron Egerton is already lined up to play Sir Elton in the film, which is being directed by Dexter Flecther (Eddie The Eagle).
Egerton revealed some story and tone details about the piece to Collider earlier this year.
We are making a movie called Rocketman about Elton John’s formative years. Everyone thinks it’s a biopic. It isn’t. It’s a fantasy musical so it’s actually his songs used to express important beats in his life at emotional moments. He’s not the only character that sings. It’s going to be fun.
John and Taupin have worked on some 30 albums together, and co-wrote the likes of Crocodile Rock,” “Honky Cat,” “Tiny Dancer,” “Candle in the Wind,” “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting,” “Bennie and the Jets,” and “Rocket Man.”
Rocketman is set up at Paramount Pictures.
