Marvel Studios are planning a Black Widow stand-alone film and are reportedly eyeing Berlin Syndrome filmmaker Cate Shortland to direct. Amma Asante (Belle) and Maggie Betts (Novitiate) are also reportedly shortlisted for the high profile job which would see the first solo outing for the popular Marvel character, played by Scarlett Johansson in the series of Avengers movies.
Shortland’s film Berlin Syndrome wowed audiences at the Berlin Film Festival last year, and then found an audience on the home formats including Netflix shortly afterwards.
Deadline reports (via an update shortly after their original post) that Shortland, Assante and Betts have all met with Kevin Feige and Johansson about the project, which is currently in the writing stage with Jac Schaeffer (Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, The Hustle) penning the screenplay.
ANy of those three would be an excellent choice for a Black Widow film, do you think?
We’ll bring you more as we hear.
