He bowed out many seasons ago but Jon Bernthal is set to return to The Walking Dead for at least one episode in the in-production season 9 of the AMC zombie series. The news comes via TV Line who say that Bernthal will reprise his role as Shane Walsh in the new season, the first time he would have been seen in TWD since series 3.
It’s not known in what capacity Bernthal will return, but looking back to the way in which he bowed out of proceedings we would expect it to be either a flashback or a hallucination (like in season three).
There’s not too much more detail presently, but we do know that Bernthal is currently hard at work filming the second season of The Punisher for Netflix. He will then reportedly shoot James Mangold’s Ford. Vs. Ferrari movie which was in talks to join last week.
