A Third ‘Sicario’ Could Happen

The second film in the series has yet to grace cinema screens, but we are already hearing that a third Sicario film could be on the cards if Sicario 2: Soldado works out. We’ve not seen ‘Sicario 2’ as yet (it is released here on the 29th June), but from what we hear its good news for fans of the first one. Stefano Sollima is directing the new one, taking over duties from Denis Villeneuve, but the original film’s writer Taylor Sheridan did pen the screenplay.

Here’s the synopsis for the new one.

FBI agent Matt Graver calls on mysterious operative Alejandro Gillick when Mexican drug cartels start to smuggle terrorists across the U.S. border. The war escalates even further when Alejandro kidnaps a top kingpin’s daughter to deliberately increase the tensions. When the young girl is seen as collateral damage, the two men will determine her fate as they question everything that they are fighting for.

Producer Trent Luckinbill spoke to Screen Rant about the series and those potential plans for more.

“We were so thrilled that people responded to the first one and we felt justified in making a second because we loved it. (Laughs) We probably are the biggest fans of the movie. And we feel that way again. Obviously, even more than the first one, we kind of leave off a little teaser at the end. Yeah. And we would love to kind of see, you know, this was always in the back of Taylor’s mind, and we loved it, and we thought, God, it would be great if we could get there. I think we’d like to do that now. I certainly feel like the second one lived up to the expectations.”

Well, I guess it all depends on how the new movie is received. Let’s hope it all works out.

Sicario 2: Soldado will open in UK cinemas on 29th June. We’ll have a full review for you in the next week or so.
