A ‘Boba Fett’ Movie Is On The Way From ‘Logan’ Director James Mangold

The director of Logan, James Mangold, is all set to direct a Star Wars movie based around the character of bounty hunter Boba Fett. The news was announced via the trades overnight on the same day that Solo: A Star Wars Story entered cinemas. The news of the Boba Fett movie was actually announced on The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision, who say that Mangold will also write a screenplay based around the character. There has been no official word from Lucasfilm as yet.

Boba Fett first appeared in ‘The Empire Strikes Back’, and then ‘Return Of The Jedi’, and has been a firm favourite with fans ever since.

The trade adds that Mangold will co-write the script with Simon Kinberg, who was reportedly once attached to helm the project for the studio, but that was never officially confirmed.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is released around the world this weekend. Reviews have been mixed-to-positive. I saw the film last night and probably fall somewhere in between. It’s an absolute blast, and should please fans, but it will be interesting to see if they choose to take things past a first movie. The film is set to become the lowest opening Star Wars movie this weekend with box-office trackers predicting a $130-$150 million opening weekend in its domestic territory. Still not too shabby though.

Our review of the film said:

Solo is a lot of fun when it gets lost in the action and the back and forth between Solo, Chewie, and Lando. It tries a bit too hard to set up a franchise of its own towards the end, and Ehrenreich isn’t quite the Solo we recognise just yet. However, given the film’s alleged production hell, it’s an enjoyable enough caper that does not need to be frozen in carbonite.

Filmmaker Mangold is also responsible for the previous X-Men spin-off The Wolverine, ensemble crime movie Copland, and the music biopic Walk The Line.

Story details surrounding the Boba Fett movie are being kept under wraps for now. More news on the project as it comes our way.
