‘Winchester’ & The Top Supernatural Movies Of All Time

Forget Michael Myers and Leatherface, supernatural thrillers are the scariest of all the horrors! Your imagination goes into overdrive, as you relive those horrifying moments in your mind over and over for months to come.

The unnerving supernatural thriller, Winchester: The Hose That Ghosts Built, is based on true events surrounding the infamous Winchester house near San Francisco, US. The film will be available to own on Blu-Ray and DVD from Monday 28th May and to celebrate the release, we’ve put together a list of some of the best supernatural horrors of all time.  

THE ORPHANAGE (2007)

Produced by Guillermo del Toro and directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, this Spanish horror is a supernatural film at its finest.

Set in an eerie old house, the film centers around Laura who brings her family back to her childhood home, which used to be an orphanage for handicapped children and is now home to many supernatural spirits. Her adoptive son starts to communicate with a spirit and he soon goes missing. Laura quickly discovers the dark secret behind her son’s new friend.

THE SHINING (1980)

THE SHINING has topped many best film polls since its debut in 1980. Based on Stephen King’s novel and directed by Stanley Kubrick, the film follows a family who moves into an isolated hotel for the winter. The father, brilliantly played by Jack Nicholson, becomes influenced by an evil spirit and becomes violent towards his wife and child.  

WHAT LIES BENEATH (2000)

This horror thriller stars Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer as a seemingly happy married couple, Norman and Claire Spencer.

Following several eerie events, Claire strongly believes their beautiful lakeside home is haunted by a ghost. The film is full of suspense and memorable moments with a cracking twist at the end.

THE OMEN (1976)

This cult classic is firmly placed in the horror hall of fame. THE OMEN follows married couple, Robert and Katherine Thorn. Unbeknown to Katherine, she suffers a stillbirth, following which her husband replaces the child with a healthy newborn whose mother died during childbirth. Strange and mysterious events surround the couple, they soon discover that the child is responsible and is the devil’s own son.

JU-ON: THE GRUDGE (2002)

Set in Japan, a mysterious and vengeful spirit marks and pursues anybody who dares enter the house in which it resides. Due to its box office success, the film was preceded by two American remakes starring Sarah Michelle Gellar.
