Deadline is reporting that Cathy Han may be directing the planned Harley Quinn movie over at Warner Brothers. The trade blog reports that Warner Bros and DC Entertainment have chosen the Dead Pigs filmmaker to helm Birds Of Prey, which will see Margot Robbie return as Quinn. The actress will also produce.
Dead Pigs won the World Cinema Dramatic Award For Ensemble Acting at Sundance last January and Robbie was keen to bag a female director for Birds Of Prey. Han may be that person.
The trade adds that the project will be based on Birds of Prey, which in the DC universe teams Quinn with several other crime fighters, namely Black Canary, Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) and Huntress, though Deadline adds that it is not confirmed if all of them will be characters in the film. Christina Hodson is scripting. In addition to this film, a sequel to Suicide Squad is in the works with Gavin O’Connor directing. Harley Quinn Vs The Joker and Gotham City Sirens are also in the works at Warner Brothers.
There’s no timescale apparent for any of these projects, but it looks like Birds Of Prey is the one with the most traction at the moment. We’ll keep you posted.
