There are about fifty different projects featuring The Joker in development at the moment – well, two, if you include the Suicide Squad sequel – and while Joaquin Phoenix is probably set to play the legendary DC villain in Todd Phillips’ stand-alone over at Warner Brothers, another legendary Hollywood player has potentially tossed his hat into the ring to play the character.
Step forward Nicolas Cage.
Speaking to Joblo.com, Cage said: “I always thought I’d make a great Joker and I always thought that I would’ve been a good villain in one of the Marvel [movies] like Doctor Doom. But, Doctor Doom you have to wear that mask, but I thought the story leading up to Doctor Doom could’ve been interesting,” he said. “At this point if I was to go back into the format it would probably have to be as a villain … It would be the perfect one for me to go even more off the rails than I’ve ever done before and, y’know, it’d be fun.”
We have three words. Make this happen. Looking at Cage’s back catalogue, and even his most recent release Mom and Dad, it’s clear that the Hollywood veteran would make a killer Joker. Do you agree?
