Steven Spielberg has officially announced that Colin Trevorrow will return to direct the third instalment in the Jurassic World franchise. J.A. Bayona is currently hard at work on the first sequel to the 2015 smash, but Trevorrow, who helmed the first movie, will be back in the director’s chair for ‘Jurassic World 3’, which is aiming for a release in 2021 (or thereabouts).
“Colin Trevorrow is going write and direct the third Jurassic World story,” executive producer Steven Spielberg told EW.

Trevorrow wrote the screenplay for the first and second films with co-writer Derek Connolly. He will team with Pacific Rim Uprising scribe Emily Carmichael, which will be based on an idea he came up with alongside Connolly.
“It’s important to this franchise that we welcome new creative voices to keep our storytelling fresh and alive,” says Trevorrow to the outlet. “I’m thrilled with the tension and beauty J.A. has brought to Fallen Kingdom, and I know Emily will add another layer of emotion to the concluding chapter of our trilogy.”
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will be released on 6th June.
