Getting Into the Shoes of Your Favorite Movie Characters

A pair of shoes symbolizes power and style. Naturally, when a viewer sees a pair of shoes on the big screen, the impact is much more than seeing some random person on the streets wearing it. There is something poetic about actors on screen embodying the life of another character, actually stepping into their shoes.  In an ode to these shoes that since being on the screen have remained in the minds of the audience, here are listed down some of the most iconic, ‘shoe moments’ of the audience’s favorite characters. The shoes indeed contribute to making the characters larger than life!

Prada Shoes – The Devil Wears Prada

Ms Miranda Priestly, the epitome of professional strictness and a top name in the fictional fashion world of ‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ is portrayed by Meryl Streep. In the movie, there’s one spectacular scene where one of her assistants Emily, runs around the office anticipating her boss’ entrance, while the boss is introduced as she steps out of her car wearing a pair of ferocious Prada heels. Representing a passion for fashion and the power of women, the pair of shoes has since reached iconic status.

Yellow Sneakers – Kill Bill

If the Prada shoes embodied passion, the pair of yellow sneakers worn by Uma Thurman’s character, ‘Beatrix Kiddo,’ was all about practicality. The character was that of an assassin, and what better for an assassin to sport other than a pair of bright yellow sneakers? This pair of sneakers achieved a lot of popularity at the time as sneakers became a staple in every closet.

Thigh High Boots – Pretty Woman

Julia Roberts forever embedded her name into shoe fashion history as she rocked the thigh high boots, playing the charismatic Vivian Ward in the 1990 film. The black over the knee heels became a symbol of not only her character but the film itself. Much like the character that won the hearts of everyone around her in the film, this trend won the hearts of fashion critics and the audiences alike, all around the world.
