Spike Lee Is Eyeing A Superhero Movie Named ‘Nightwatch’ Over At Sony

Spike Lee is potentially set to join the superhero movie fold with a new movie set amongst the Sony Pictures Marvel universe. Lee is eyeing the film Nightwatch, and will possibly direct for the studio.

Nightwatch has been written by Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker, and will be based on the Marvel character, an African-American scientist  Dr. Kevin Trench, first seen in the comic-books in 1993. The Hollywood Reporter reports the news of Lee’s very early involvement with the project.

The Marvel Wiki has more on the character:

Kevin Trench was a super-villain known as Nighteater. Eventually realizing that villains never win, Nighteater conspired to alter the vibratory attunement of reality and create a new history where he was a more heroic figure. With the mystical assistance of Doctor Druid and the vibrations abilities of Shocker and Vibro, Nighteater engineered his spell in a small town in North Dakota. She-Hulk, Tigra, Captain Marvel and Wyatt Wingfoot were present at the scene trying to stop him but they ultimately failed.

Thanks to the spell, most of the universe is unaware of Trench’s criminal history. Instead, they remember him as a heroic figure known as Nightwatch. As a consequence, some (if not all) of his recorded history as “Nightwatch” may be completely inaccurate, as the spell was cast at an unspecified point in his history.

Nightwatch will fit amongst the Spider-Man-related movies that include Spider-Man: Homecoming and its planned sequel, Venom, the Spidey-villain movie now in post-production with Tom Hardy starring, as well as  Silver & Blackfrom director Gina Prince-Bythewood, which is set for February 8, 2019.
