3 Films Shot In Real-Life Las Vegas Casinos

The attraction between Hollywood and Las Vegas has always been a strong one. Many movies and TV series have shot there over the years – which isn’t surprising when you realise that Vegas lies just over 270 miles to the northeast – but did you know that some movies were filmed actually inside some of the working casinos? Here are just three of them from the last few years.

Now You See Me

Now You See Me is a movie not based on casinos, but it did actually film in one. Like with UK casinos, Las Vegas revolves around illusion and magic and acts like David Copperfield and Penn and Teller actually have residencies in Sin City. In the 2013 movie Now You See Me, filmmakers chose to film their movie – which is all about magic and deception – in one of the biggest casinos on the strip, the MGM Grand, which just so happens to be the home of one David Copperfield.

The Hangover

Todd Phillips’ stag-do gone wrong comedy from 2008 was shot all over Las Vegas, but its key scenes were filmed in and around the famous Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino. These included the scenes where the groom-to-be Doug, mysteriously goes missing. The movie, released in 2008, also shot some scenes in the Riviera Casino, which was actually demolished back in 2015.

Rocky Balboa

The sixth film in the legendary Rocky franchise, which has since gone on to evolve into the Creed series, set up shop at the famous Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino towards the south of Las Vegas Boulevard (by the famous ‘Welcome To Las Vegas’ sign). Sylvester Stallone and his team of producers and actors, took to the main hall of the casino to stage the closing fight between Mason “The Line” Dixon. Far from the best Rocky film, Rocky Balboa was certainly the most impressive, taking in the glitz and lights of this glamourous location.
