The critics across the pond haven’t been too kind to Eli Roth‘s remake of Death Wish when it was released at the tail end of last week, but as always, we’ll reserve judgement until it is played before our own eyes. Dr. Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is a surgeon who only sees the aftermath of his city’s violence when he is confronted with it in his ER -that is until his wife (Elisabeth Shue) and daughter (Camila Morrone) are viciously attacked in their suburban home.
With the police overloaded with crimes, Paul, burning for revenge, hunts his family’s assailants to deliver justice. As the anonymous slayings of criminals grab the media’s attention, the city wonders if this deadly avenger is a guardian angel or a grim reaper.

The film pulled in $13 million in the North American territories, opening at the number three position on the weekly charts. This was against a budget of a reported $30 million.
