Joss Whedon has walked away from the Batgirl movie over at Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films. The hitmaker released a short statement on Thursday to confirm the news, which was first reported over at The Hollywood Reporter.
“Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story,” Whedon said in a statement. “I’m grateful to Geoff and Toby and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I… uh, is there a sexier word for ‘failed’?”
This is sad news for the project as Whedon is obviously such a big talent, but surely the best and most positive step would be to have a woman take the helm? This is just us thinking out loud, of course, but we’ll obviously keep you posted of any further developments.
