Anne Hathaway is set to team with Mudbound director Dee Rees for her next feature, The Last Thing He Wanted, so reports Variety.
The trade says that the film is a political thriller and centers on hardscrabble journalist Elena McMahon who finds herself on dangerous ground as the Iran Contra Affair’s arms for drugs plot reaches its tipping point. It is based on the book by Joan Didion and will be adapted for a feature by Marco Villalobos.
Hathaway, we presume, will play McMahon in the film, which is already in pre-production.
The actress will next be seen in the spin-off heist comedy-action Ocean’s 8 later in the summer, and also the Chris Addison-directed redo of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Hustle, previously titled Nasty Women.
