The 92 films submitted to compete for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2018 Oscars have now been whittled down to just nine. The films will now screen to members of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences in early January who will then put five films forward for official nominations in the category, which will be announced on 23rd January, 2018.
The nine shortlisted are:
Chile, A Fantastic Woman, Sebastián Lelio, director;
Germany, In the Fade, Fatih Akin, director
Hungary, On Body and Soul, Ildikó Enyedi, director
Israel, Foxtrot, Samuel Maoz, director
Lebanon, The Insult, Ziad Doueiri, director
Russia, Loveless, Andrey Zvyagintsev, director
Senegal, Félicité, Alain Gomis, director
South Africa, The Wound, John Trengove, director
Sweden, The Square, Ruben Östlund, director
The Square took the top prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, winning the Palme d’Or, while On Body and Soul was the big winner at February’s Berlin Film Festival.
The 90th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.
