Creed Sequel Attracts New Director

“We could not be more fortunate and excited for the collaboration of Steven, Sly, Michael and the producers, to build upon the success of ‘Creed,’” said Jonathan Glickman, MGM’s president, motion picture group to the trade. “The combination of Steven’s talent and unique vision makes him the perfect director to continue the Rocky franchise’s storied lineage.”

“It’s an honor to be a part of such an iconic franchise and to work with such great collaborators,” Caple said. “Mike, Sly, and Tessa are extraordinarily talented and bring something special to today’s culture. I look forward to joining the family and continuing the precedent set by this franchise’s alumni of incredible filmmakers.”

“We recognized Steven’s talent for telling ambitious stories with incredible heart in ‘The Land,’” said producer Irwin Winkler. “We are confident what he will bring to ‘Creed 2’ will result in a story that resonates with audiences all over the world.”

Creed, which was actually released Stateside in late 2015, was one of the movies which sat at the top of many folks’ best of the year lists, and even though the UK got the film in January 2016, the same was the case over here. Creed grossed over $173 million from a reported $35 million budget and earned Stallone a best supporting actor Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination. It was one of the best sequel/ reboots we’ve seen for some considerable time, and that’s due to the creative team and the cast involved, but particularly the talents of director Ryan Coogler, who will return to executive produce the sequel.

We hear that Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) and his son will play a pivotal role in the sequel, but nothing has been officially confirmed by MGM as yet.

“You’ll have [Adonis Creed] face a different opponent, which I would say is a more ferocious, big Russian,” Stallone said previously. “There’s a lot there.”

Creed II is scripted by Stallone and Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker. More on the exciting Creed sequel we get it.
