Mel Gibson Comedy ‘What Women Want’ Is Getting A Remake, Kinda

Remember the 2000 Mel Gibson-led comedy What Women Want, the film that saw his character get into an accident which led him to be able to read women’s minds? Well, it’s getting a remake. Kind of. Deadline is reporting that the ‘What Women Want remake’ will debut in cinemas in 2019, and will see Taraji P. Henson (Empire) lead the cast. The title? What Men Want, of course.

What Women Want Remake Lands Taraji P. Henson

Deadline reports that the new comedy follows a female sports agent (Henson) who has been constantly boxed out by her male colleagues. When she gains the power to hear men’s thoughts, she is able to shift the paradigm to her advantage as she races to sign the NBA’s next superstar.

It’s quite different to the original Mel Gibson version, which also starred Helen Hunt and was directed by Nancy Meyers.

Here’s how that version went:

Nick Marshall (Mel Gibson) gets a whole new outlook on life when a fluke accident gives him the ability to read women’s minds. At first, this “gift” provides Nick with way too much information, but he begins to realize that he can use it to good effect, especially when it comes to outwitting his new boss, Darcy Maguire (Helen Hunt).

What Men Want still hasn’t got a writer or a director attached, but expect that to change quite soo as the film will have to get into production at some point next year as Paramount Players, the arm of Paramount Pictures who is behind the movie, have already set a January 11, 2019 Stateside release date.

Henson was last seen in this year’s exceptional Hidden Figures and stars in the TV series Empire.

Will Packer and James Lopez are set to produce What Men Want, and Henson is executive producing. More on this interesting What Women Want remake as it comes in our general direction.
