House Of Cards will conclude its run on Netflix after its sixth season, which is now shooting Stateside. The announcement was made by Netflix after sexual assault allegations were made against star Kevin Spacey, first reported by BuzzFeed. Spacey responded to the allegations on Twitter.
The fifth season aired on Netflix back in May, though no announcement has been made as to when the next season will air on the streamer.
Sources close to the production say season six had been intended as the final installment of the show.
Variety has reported, however, that various spin-offs are planned, including one which may revolve around Doug Stamper, the political aide-de-camp played by actor Michael Kelly in the first five seasons of the political drama. Eric Roth, who served as an executive producer on the first four seasons, has been set to write. Two other concepts are also being considered though nobody is attached to them as yet, so reports the trade.
The trade adds that Netflix and producer Media Rights Capital declined to comment.
