The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that none other than Jared Leto is set to play the late Playboy entrepreneur Hugh Hefner in a new biopic. Brett Ratner, who directed the Rush Hour movies, as well as X-Men: The Last Stand, will helm the project which is set up at his own RatPac Entertainment.
“Jared is an old friend,” says Ratner to the trade newspaper. “When he heard I got the rights to Hef’s story, he told me, ‘I want to play him. I want to understand him.’ And I really believe Jared can do it. He’s one of the great actors of today.”
“My goal is to do the motion picture as an event,” the filmmaker added.
No word on when the project will kick into gear, but the trade says that the film is in early development at Ratpac.
Leto can be seen in this weekend’s Blade Runner 2049 (read our review here).
