In a few weeks, The Hollywood News ventures off to Canada for our annual trip to the Toronto International Film Festival. There are many films playing there this year, but one of the ones I’m personally most excited about is Manhunt, the latest from legendary action filmmaker John Woo, one which is being billed as the ‘Return Of The Maestro’ – his return to the action movie genre. You can watch the first Manhunt movie trailer below.
Manhunt movie trailer – John Woo’s return to action
The first Manhunt movie trailer has landed on to little fanfare, hence the reason I’ve decided to write about it. The minute-long promo is full of Woo goodness – including slo-mo, twin gun fury, circling Jet-skis, and many flying bullets. I just hope there are doves. This really does look to be a throw back to Woo’s films of the late 1980s and early 1990s – we’re talking The Killer, Bullet To The Head and my personal favourite, Hard Boiled.
John Woo has been dealing in period pieces for the last decade or so, working on the likes of Red Cliff and its sequel, The Crossing and The Crossing 2, and the forthcoming eight-part 1940s-set anthology project Eight and a Half. Manhunt is his first action movie since 2003’s Ben Affleck starrer Paycheck, and his first Eastern action movie since Once A Thief, a TV movie released back in 1996.
Here’s the brief synopsis for his upcoming film:
Accused of heinous crimes he didn’t commit, a prosecutor sets out on a mission to clear his name.
Manhunt will initially journey to the Venice Film Festival later this month, before making its way to TIFF. Woo is expected at both festivals.
As you may be able to tell, I’m a little excited for this one. We’ll bring you a full review as soon as possible. Watch the Manhunt movie trailer below.
