Michael Sheen and David Tennant To United For ‘Good Omens’

British actors Michael Sheen and David Tennant are set to lead the cast of the Amazon, BBC Studios and Narrativia-produced Good Omens, based on the Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s fantasy novel of the same name. Variety broke the casting news.

The full title of the source material is ‘Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter’. Here’s a little more about it:

So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, frogs are falling, tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon—both of whom have lived amongst Earth’s mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle—are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture.

And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist…

The TV version will be set in 2018, which I’m guessing is when we’ll get to see it on screens. Sheen will play the role of angel Aziraphale, while Tennant will play the demon Crowley.

Speaking to the trade, Sheen said: “I first read ‘Good Omens’ as a teenager and it’s been one of my favourite stories ever since.”

“To be part of the team entrusted with bringing it alive on screen is a bit of a dream come true to be honest. To work alongside Neil, who I think is one of the greatest storytellers of all time, is incredibly exciting. And, just like the rest of the world, I’m a huge fan of David’s so I relish trying to save it with him.”

The story will play out over six one-hour episodes, all of which have been adapted by Gaiman himself.

The series is expected to play out on Amazon Prime Video, but will also get an airing on the BBC in the UK.
