After 15 years of trading, DVD and Blu-ray postal service LoveFilm is to cease operating in the UK. The movie is an obvious one as consumers move to the big streaming services of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, but still, we’re a bit gutted.
The service will cease in October with customers no longer billed for the service after September.
Amazon, who own LoveFilm after buying it back in 2011. A spokesperson for Amazon said:
“We have very much enjoyed delivering the LoveFilm By Post service to our customers. However, over the last few years we’ve seen a decreasing demand for DVD and Blu-ray rental as customers increasingly move to streaming.”
“Due to this, we will be closing the LoveFilm By Post business on October 31, 2017. We are committed to finding alternative roles for all LoveFilm employees within Amazon,” they added.
Customers will be offered a discount on an Amazon Fire Stick rather than simply covering their account to a Prime Video subscription.
