Warner Brothers are to vigorously campaign for Academy Award nods for its summer smash Wonder Woman. The studio is looking to bag a Best Picture nomination for the film, as well as a nod for Patty Jenkins for Best Director. Is they manage to get Jenkins a nomination, she will be only the fifth woman to secure one. Only Lina Wertmüller (Seven Beauties), Jane Campion (The Piano), Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), and Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) have been nominated for a Best Director Oscar, with the Bigalow the only one to win.
So far Wonder Woman has taken in a huge $781 million worldwide, as well as garnering some pretty positive reviews from around the world.
A sequel is already in motion with Jenkins expected to return to the directors chair.
