Entertainment Weekly have provided a brand new look at the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot which sees Alicia Vikander fill the boots of heroine Lara Croft. The actress also spoke with the outlet about the difference to the iconic character in the new movie as compared to previous instalments, and indeed the original video game.

“She has all the fierce, tough, curious, intelligent traits, but we’ve stripped away all of her experience,” Vikander said. “She hasn’t gone on an adventure just yet. She thought he was a stuck up businessperson living in the modern youth culture of suburban London, but then this whole box of information. This is the beginning.”

Roar Uthaug (The Wave) is directing and Vikander says that some of the scenes in the film were similar to the director’s disaster movie that was released a couple of years ago.

“Just like in The Wave, we have a lot of water sequences, I spent my last two days of shooting in a tank and that was my 16th total day being fully drenched or submerged in the water…For one action scene, we used the London venue for Olympic rafting. They threw me down that river — with my hands tied — about 50 times. I didn’t need to act, just react!”

Dominic West, Walton Goggins, and Daniel Wu are also amongst the cast of the film.

Tomb Raider will be released in March 2018. Check out the new image above.
