The Hollywood Reporter are reporting that a sequel series to The L Word is on the way to the Showtime network. The original series wrapped eight years ago, but according to the report creator Ilene Chaiken will executive produce a new sequel season along with Jennifer Beals, Kate Moennig and Leisha Hailey, who all return to connect a younger ensemble to the brand.
The L Word followed the lives and loves of a group of lesbians and bisexuals in Los Angeles. The characters date, get into committed relationships, consider having families, hook up, break up, question their sexuality, stay in the closet, come out or sleep around — sometimes all of the above.
The trade reports that Showtime is ‘looking for someone with ties to the lesbian community to document how their relationships, lives and experiences have evolved — as well as what has and hasn’t changed since the show launched in 2004.’
No word on air dates as yet, obviously, but we’ll keep you posted.
