Mahershala Ali To Lead ‘True Detective’ Season Three?

In some really rather fantastic news, it has been revealed that none other than Moonlight star and indeed Academy Award-winner Mahershala Ali will lead the cast of True Detective season three over on HBO. The actor, who also appeared in the Oscar nominated Hidden Figures, as well as television hits House Of Cards and Luke Cage, will reportedly follow in the footsteps of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in season one, and then Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell in season two. The Tracking Board, who broke the news had no further casting information though. More on the big True Detective season three news below.

TTB also do state that Ali’s deal hasn’t closed yet, but insiders are confident that it will. Also, the third season of True Detective hasn’t officially had the green light from the network yet, but considering the success of the last two, we’d expect this to happen too.

True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto is also set to return for the new season, so say reports.

Ali has recently completed work on Robert Rodriguez’s big-budget Alita: Battle Angel and he will next be seen in indie film Roxanne Roxanne. Also ahead he has Sony’s animated Spider-Man movie, and also J.C. Chandor’s Triple Frontier opposite Ben and Casey Affleck. That movie, which was set to star the likes of Tom Hardy and ‘Detective’ alumni Farrell, is currently in pre-production with shooting set soon. Whether True Detective season three will come before or after is yet to be seen. Let’s just see if Ali signs on that all-important dotted line first. We really hope that he does.
