Will Tom Hardy take the role of Jafar in Guy Ritchie’s ‘Aladdin’?

He appeared in the rather underrated Guy Ritchie movie RockNRolla as Handsome Bob, and now Tom Hardy is being rumoured to star in the British director’s upcoming live-action remake of Disney’s Aladdin. A source spoke to The Sun newspaper in the UK, who report that Ritchie is keen on reuniting with Ritchie for him to take on the role of the evil Jafar in his film, which kicks off shooting this summer. Tom Hardy Aladdin news update: Will he play Jafar?

Tom Hardy Aladdin rumours surface. Will the British actor play Jafar in the planned Disney remake?

“Guy is a huge fan of Tom’s work and securing him would be a major coup. There have been conversations and, although nothing is set in stone and things are subject to change, he’s certainly one of Guy’s favoured choices. It just depends on schedules whether he’ll be able to sign up.”

Of course Hardy has the Sony-based Venom movie in his schedule, and it looks like Aladdin may go before the cameras very soon – likely a July or August start.

Will Smith is still reportedly in negotiations to play the Genie in Aladdin, while unknowns are being sought after for the title character and Jasmine, though the sam source reports that British girl band Little Mix‘s Jade Thirlwall is apparently in talks to play Princess Jasmine. The film will reportedly retain the musical element of the superb original animated movie, so if Hardy does sign up he’ll most probably have to sing.

We hope this happens, though the move to cast a white actor in the role will be a controversial one.

Hardy also made the news at the weekend after he revealed that his dog Woody had sadly passed away. He wrote the following on his Tumblr page.

“He was an Angel. And he was my best friend. We went through so much together.”

More the Tom Hardy Aladdin news, and if that Jade Thirlwall story is indeed accurate, as it comes our way.

Aladdin will be released in 2018.
