Steven Knight says ‘Taboo’ will run for three seasons

Brooding British period series Taboo, which aired on the BBC and makes its way to the home formats this month, is said to be getting three season in total, that’s according to the series co-creator and writer Steven Knight.

Knight recently spoke with Huffington Post UK who said that the second series will continue to follow tom Hardy’s James Delaney after he made his daring and dangerous escape from London in 1814.

“I can feel the three acts. The first was ‘the escape’. The second will be ‘the journey’ and the third will be ‘the arrival’, and that’ll be it. I don’t think the story will be what viewers are expecting, but hopefully they’ll enjoy it,” Knight said.

“You have to work really hard to make history boring,” he added. “There was always lots going on, with structures failing, being rebuilt. History has always been taught in terms of kings and queens, and actually the real drama is at the far less stable points in society. That’s where I find my stories.”

No word on when that next season will air, but we’ll let you know as soon as we do. If you missed the first season, here’s a recap on the story:

London, 1814. Britain is at war with France and the United States. Presumed dead, James Keziah Delaney (Tom Hardy) returns home to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire. His arrival not only threatens to disrupt the plans of the family he left behind, but also the political ambitions of the mighty East India Company in a combustible tale of love, murder and revenge.
