Deadline are reporting that Netflix have cancelled Baz Luhrmann’s Netflix show The Get Down after just one season. No specific reason is given for the streamer not to renew for a season two, but with episodes costing upwards of $10 million, bringing its total bill to over $100 million, it’s likely that expense may have been a factor.
Luhrmann himself also released a statement on social media.
“I wanted to speak to you with an open heart and just acknowledge how humbled and moved that not only I, but all who have given so much to this production, have been by your passion and commitment to see the next chapter of The Get Down go back into production in the immediate future. I want to explain to you why that is unlikely to happen…”
The second batch of six episodes were released on Netflix just last month. Here’s Luhrmann’s statement in full.
