The Inspector Rebus series of books are being re-adapted by the writing genius behind the superb drama ’71. Gregory Burke will adapt Ian Rankin’s source material with a contemporary setting.
The novels were previously adapted into a series of television movies that starred John Hannah and later Ken Stott in the lead. The novels revolve around Detective Inspector John Rebus, and were mostly based in and around Edinburgh.
Deadline report that Eleventh Hour Films have acquired the rights to the books. The trade blog quotes Burke as saying: “As someone who has grown up and lives in South East Scotland, Ian Rankin’s best-selling books provide the perfect material to make a thrilling series about crime in the modern world.”
Executive Producer Jill Green promises “a fresh and revisionist take in every way introducing both Rebus and Edinburgh to a new generation.”
More as we get it.
