In some pretty awesome news, it has been announced that David Fincher is about to sign up to direct Brad Pitt in the sequel to zombie flick World War Z. While the director hasn’t signed on the dotted line as yet, it looks promising that he will reunite him with his Seven, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button leading man.
The news comes via Variety who say that the moving forward on World War Z is all thanks to Paramount Pictures’ new chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos. The trade says that the film isn’t officially greenlit as yet but Gianopulos is expected to do so in the coming weeks. They report that the film could start shooting as early as the first part of 2018.
The first film was based upon the 2006 novel of the same name by Max Brooks and directed by Marc Forster. The film revolved around former U.N. investigator Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) and his family who get stuck in urban gridlock. He senses that it’s no ordinary traffic jam and his suspicions are confirmed when, suddenly, the city erupts into chaos. A lethal virus, spread through a single bite, is turning healthy people into something vicious, unthinking and feral. As the pandemic threatens to consume humanity, Gerry leads a worldwide search to find the source of the infection and, with luck, a way to halt its spread.
The film grossed $540 million worldwide back in 2013 and Pitt has reportedly been courting Fincher to direct since last summer.
