Watch you must: The first ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ trailer arrives

The wait is almost over for the next instalment of the third Star Wars trilogy. Episode 8 is due to hit cinemas world-wide this December, directed by Rian Johnson who previously brought us stylistic and mind-bending sci-fi hit Looper. To whet our appetites before the film’s release, the first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi  has now dropped, check it out below:

‘The Jedi must end’. They are the final words spoken by Luke Skywalker at the end of the trailer, but what do they mean? Has Luke decided that the Jedi are a lost cause, that the Jedi Order cannot work anymore? Or has years of isolation brought him too close to the Dark Side? We’ve only got 8 more months to wait to find out, and there’s bound to be more footage teased along the way.

But, for those worried that the new trailer may already tease too much, just remember that many people thought the same with Rian Johnson‘s trailer for Looper. Although that trailer appeared completely spoilerific, it actually managed to keep the entire second act a secret.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will pick up where Episode 7 left off, Star Killer base has been destroyed, but so have several New Republic worlds causing political chaos that the First Order are now keen to exploit. The film will see Daisy Ridley return as Rey, and John Boyega return as Fin, starring alongside many other returning characters from the previous episode.

The trailer was unveiled during today’s panel at the Star Wars Celebration in Florida, where we also got our first look at the new poster and it’s a beauty.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives worldwide on 15th December 2017.
