Dolph Lundgren to appear in Aquaman in ‘villainous role’

In quite possibly the best casting news of the year, action star and all-round legend Dolph Lundgren will star in Warner Bros. Pictures’ Aquaman for director James Wan.

Lundgren, who has appeared in the likes of Rocky IV, and most recently The Expendables movies, will play a villainous role in the film, which is being led by Jason Momoa in the title character. The news was broken by The Hollywood Reporter, and now Lundgren will join the project and the already cast Willem Dafoe, who plays Aquaman’s adviser, scientist Dr. Vulko; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta; and Temuera Morrison is Aquaman’s father.

There’s also Amber Heard as Mera, Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mother; and Patrick Wilson as Orm, the main villain who happens to be Aquaman’s half-brother.

Lundgren will play King Nereus of the aquatic kingdom of Xebel, who claims Mera as his own and wants to kill Aquaman, so says the trade. Shooting starts this month on the high-profile project, a stand-alone film in the DC universe.
