Big Little Lies season 2 talk: Are there plans to continue the story?

Big Little Lies season 2 plans: Author Liane Moriarty reportedly developing more stories.

Big Little Lies has been a huge success for HBO, and now that season one is done thoughts are turning to furthering the story. Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern and Alexander Skarsgard starred in the show for the network, which was based on the best-seller by Liane Moriarty. The author recently caught up with The Sydney Morning Herald who spoke about a Big Little Lies season 2.

“I have started to think about ways this could continue. The producers have asked me to see if I can come up with some ideas. I wouldn’t write a new book but perhaps a new story, and then we’ll see what happens.”

The show didn’t going into the back story of the character of Bonnie, played by Zoe Kravitz, and her relationship with her abusive father – something that the book did. Moriarty was also quoted on that decision and thoughts that season 2 could go more into that.

“My original reaction was, ‘What have they done? How have they left that out?’. But a lot of people have said that they could tell [what Bonnie’s true story was]. There had been little hints. … It’s implied in her performances and some little lines. I think I might have preferred to have had it in there, but I wouldn’t argue against it either. It also leaves open the possibility of Season 2.”

Big Little Lies was a collaboration with writer David E. Kelley (Boston Legal) and director Jean-Marc Vallee (Dallas Buyers Club) and was presumed to be a stand-alone affair, but we’ll take a Big Little Lies season 2 along with the rest of the 2.1 million domestic viewers that tuned in every week. The great news is that both Witherspoon and Kidman, who also produced, have both expressed interest in returning. Of course, we’ll keep you posted.
