Joss Whedon set to write and direct Batgirl movie

Well, this is a bit exciting! The big news escaping from Hollywood is that Joss Whedon has been plucked by Warner Bros to write and direct a standalone Batgirl movie and, quite frankly, this is stunningly good news for all.

Whedon obviously has one hell of a history with comic books plus the likes of The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron alongside Serenity, Firefly, Buffy, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a whole lot more and, of course, love for the genre.

It’s been reported by Variety that not only will he write/direct but also produce the untitled Batgirl flick and it’ll be part of DC’s extended universe. It’s an interesting time to announce this and I believe a very smart move given the rather lukewarm reception to Suicide Squad and Batman V Superman. There are also already question marks over what’s happening with The Batman and although Justice League is going out fully to grab us by the Box Office, I still have a concern over Zack Snyder and his concentration style over substance but, of course, I’ll be happy to be wrong.

But beyond all that, Joss Whedon and Batgirl? Bring it on and we’ll bring all the latest news when we hear it.
