A new ‘Puppet Master’ movie is on the way…

Film in 1989 gave us Batman, The Little Mermaid and The Abyss. It also gave us the first in a long line of Puppet Master films. Released direct to video, the first film followed a group of psychics, who found themselves the victim of a former, deceased colleague. It featured a host of cult iconic puppet villains which included Blade, Jester, Pinhead (not that one), Tunneler, Leech Woman, Shredder Khan and Gengie. The movie developed a following which led to ten sequels. A twelfth is now in the works.

Titled Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, the new film will be directed by Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund, with the script coming via Bone Tomahawk‘s S. Craig Zahler. Production will start imminently with Thomas LennonUdo Kier and Barbara Crampton in front of the camera.

The last version will focus in on both the horror and humour of the franchise. It will focus on a recently divorced man who finds a mint condition Blade doll just around the 30th anniversary of the Toulon Murders. He decides to sell the rare toy at a convention, but all hell breaks loose during the auction, and after animating, a hoard of puppets go on a murderous rampage.

A release date has yet to be announced.
