2017 Three Empire Awards winners announced

Just when you thought award season was over, along comes another one… Last night Camden Roundhouse got was host to some very important people for the 2017 Three Empire Awards.

The awards are voted for by readers of the film magazine and tend to produce very different results to the likes of the BAFTAs and Oscars, the focus being much more on the fan favourite films that often get overlooked by the industry-led awards. Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool for example found no love at the Oscars, but was nominated for five Empire awards, taking home just one of them. Similarly Amy Adams was missed off of several Best Actress categories this season despite her amazing work in both Arrival and Nocturnal Animals. Sadly she lost out again, but at least she was nominated.

The big winner of the night was Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the film scooping up three of the big awards – Best Director, Best Actress and Best Film. It was also a good night for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which took home four awards, more than Rogue One, but from more technical categories, with the exception of Best Actor. Luc BessonTom Hiddleston and Sir Patrick Stewart were awarded the three special prizes, Inspiration Award (Besson), Hero Award (Hiddleston), and Legend Award (Stewart – obvs).
