Coming To America 2 on the way from Eddie Murphy?
Take this one with a huge pinch of salt as details are a little vague, but it looks like Eddie Murphy may be writing a sequel to one of his greatest 1980s movies Coming To America. Yes, we may be in for a Coming To America 2 in the near future!
Is a Coming To America 2 on the way?
The news all stems from a tweet sent from an apparent, verified Twitter account for Murphy with the words ‘Coming To America sequel’, and an image of the character Princess Imani from the original 1988 movie. Both the account and the tweet no longer exist, but this has sent the internet into a bit of a feeding frenzy which may have a bit of truth to the rumours.
According to sources at TMZ, the comedy legend is apparently in the early stages of writing a sequel to the very popular film, and the outlet even managed to get in touch with actress Vanessa Bell Calloway, who played Imani in the film.
“I’m wondering if Eddie was hacked, though, wasn’t there some big thing about Twitter being hacked? Because you know, Eddie’s a very private person as we know, he’s a very kind man, but he’s very private and I really think that maybe it could’ve gotten hacked and that’s why it’s down because it’s not true, unfortunately. I mean, that’s something I thought. I don’t know for a fact, I haven’t talked to Eddie in years but I hope it is true. I hope I’m wrong. It would be a perfect sequel.”
Personally, I’m bang up for a Coming To America 2, but I’d be keen to hear your thoughts. In the Paramount Pictures original, Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy) is the prince of a wealthy African country and wants for nothing, except a wife who will love him in spite of his title. To escape an arranged marriage, Akeem flees to America accompanied by his persnickety sidekick, Semmi (Arsenio Hall), to find his queen. Disguised as a foreign student working in fast food, he romances Lisa (Shari Headley), but struggles with revealing his true identity to her and his marital intentions to his king father (James Earl Jones).
