Earlier this week, we reported that a rebooting of The Matrix was in play over at Warner Bros. and that Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand) would be the man to do. The internet went a little crazy following the article, which originated over on The Hollywood Reporter, but Penn has now taken to Twitter to explain that the planned film would definitely not be a reboot, but take place in the existing ‘Matrix’ universe.
“Can’t comment yet except to say that the words ‘reboot’ and ‘remake’ were from an article. Let’s stop responding to inaccurate news. If I were going to recast Keanu Reeves, I would cast Keanu Reeves. Do I want to see more stories set in the universe of the matrix? Yes. Because it’s a brilliant idea that generates great stories. Look at what people are doing with Xmen universe. Between Logan and Legion and Deadpool, does anyone want them to stop? Not me.”
We’re pretty sure that WB will follow the mould created by Disney and Lucasfilm and the way that they are approaching the Star Wars universe. We’re also pretty sure that a film about the younger Morpheus was mentioned as a possibility?
More as we get it.
